Louisville Green Best Management Practices

  1. All haulers of Louisville Green biosolids pellets will follow the scaling procedures supplied to the consumer for whom they are hauling. The procedure includes weighing in, identifying the end user by code number, loading, temperature determination, weighing out, and the appropriate date, load and ticket numbers, and signatures.
  2. Every Louisville Green transporter should have a Louisville Green Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) in the vehicle at all times when hauling Louisville Green. This is to establish that Louisville Green is not a hazardous or dangerous material.
  3. Louisville Green haulers should check for good haul routes that don’t have road and bridge weight restrictions or low overpasses that cannot accommodate delivery vehicles. Haulers will follow the specified route into and out of the Morris Forman Wastewater Treatment Plant (MFWTP) supplied with the scaling procedures.
  4. Louisville Green haulers should have emergency response plans in case of a vehicle accident or spill. Drivers and other operators should be trained on the actions required in the plan. Each vehicle should keep a copy of the plan in the truck at all times.
  5. Louisville Green vehicles should have the following features: leak-proof tailgates with seals, bed covers (hard or tarps) for truck beds, truck boxes or trailers that are to be used to haul Louisville Green to reduce the potential for getting the product wet during transport and spills. Vehicle trailer seals should be inspected daily and replaced as needed.
  6. Care should be taken to reduce spills at the loading facility. Louisville Green transport vehicles loaded at the MFWTP will be loaded using screw conveyors from storage silos. On some rare occasions Louisville Green will be loaded from front-end loaders from stockpiled Louisville Green.
  7. Vehicles, trailers, and associated equipment should be fully functional when hauling.
  8. Vehicles and associated equipment should be clean when arriving and before they leave the MFWTP.
  9. Each vehicle should be equipped with a scraper, shovel, and brooms so drivers can clean up any small spills that may occur.
  10. Haul beds should be clean and dry both before and after Louisville Green hauling (especially if trucks haul other materials from time to time).
  11. It is the responsibility of the truck driver to ensure that the loaded truck meets all applicable federal, state and local transportation rules and regulations.
  12. Transportation routes should be chosen that avoid watercourses and rough terrain. This should reduce the risk of contamination if there is a spill.
